Subject: Presentation in Uganda
Hi Everyone,
I had the opportunity to travel to Uganda with President Rupiah Banda. I was invited by the President to attend The Smart Partnership which was held in Uganda from the 2nd - 5th August 2009.
The 3-day conference was attended by 6 Heads of State and Government - Presidents Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, Rupiah Banda of Zambia, Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister Bethuel Pakalitha Mosisili of Lesotho, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin and King Muswati the 3rd of Swaziland.
The purpose of Smart Partnership that was born under the umbrella of the Commonwealth Partnership in Technology and Management (CPTM) and it is to bring together people of different backgrounds to share ideas and help different countries appreciate issues that will lead to the promotion of the tourism industry as well as dialogue and Think Tanking.
It was really a good opprtunity to network and really get to know the Zambian Presidential Delegation which included a number of Permanent Secretaries and Ministers.
Anyway I have attached the presentation that I made during the agricultural session and a couple of pictures of me and President Ruphia in a round table session with the Club 29 members who are a youth addition to the Smart-Partnership.
It was quite an experience. You all know me I made quite an impact especially with the Ugandans and the President of Tanzania who totally could not stop congratulating me on how wanderful my presentation was. The Zambian delegation were so impressed and they kept going on how I made Zambia very proud.

To add to all this excitement President Banda called me over to his table and told me how wanderful my presentation was and introduced me to President Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe) and he told him how I had a project in Southern Province (President Banda knew my mother) and he has followed our progress through Simon (my husband) and Robert Muganbe asked all these questions then told me to keep it up.
Later on the President said to me privately, "I hope that you are having a wanderful time and I have been really impressed with your presentation, we should take you on trips more offen to represent us."
I don't know how serious he was when he made that statement and whether that will really happen but all the same it was a proud moment.
I just thought that I should give you a brief and let you know that we are one step closer.
Look forward to hearing from you
Barbara
